East Van Bonsai member Mike S. recently paid a visit to Anton Nijhuis of anijhuis.com
Mike – “Anton was gracious to show me around his garden and we talked trees, collecting, concrete pots, suiseki, rock hounding and more.”
Anton has a practical approach to collecting in the wild and straightforward methods of maintaining his sizable bonsai collection. Many of his trees are 20-30 years in training. Some were started from seeds and cuttings, while others were already centuries old at the time of collection.
“I took a few photos with Anton’s permission. The mix of rain and sun that day made for striking colours.”
Anton has a few dozen collected shore pines in waiting that will be for sale at the upcoming PNBCA convention in Olympia.
